Governor of New York, Andrew Coumo resigned amidst allegations and accusations of sexual misconduct and harassment.
As everyone knows, Andrew Cuomo is a Democrat. That’s why he resigned.
If the allegations of harassment and misconduct are true, then what he did was reprehensible. There is no excuse for it, and there should be consequences. The way the Democratic Party treats these situations, in all cases, is to pressure the accused into resignation. That happened with Governor Cuomo. The Democratic Party is above this kind of behavior, and it stands by its morals by taking action.
The Republican Party does no such thing.
Is it the right thing to do for Democrats? Personally, I consider myself a semi-moral person, and I am conflicted. With the likes of Matt Gaetz, a pedophile, still being on the Judiciary Committee in the House of Representatives, I have to ask myself, “What the fuck?!”
The laundry list of Republicans who should resign on the basis of lack of moral integrity is too long to post in one newsletter. The Party would be decimated. But they won’t. And Kevin McCarthy and Mitch McConnell will protect their criminals. We, as Democrats shouldn’t care. We are above that. But why?
Will the Democrats be rewarded for their good deeds? Absolutely not. The phrase “no good deed goes unpunished” was modeled after Democratic behavior. But that shouldn’t matter. Democrats are above that. Is it good enough to be rewarded in heaven?
When I see a Tweet from Lauren Boebert, moron extraordinaire, espousing the virtues of her Party, it makes me throw up a little in my mouth. I hate to repeat myself, but, “What the fuck?!” Her husband was ARRESTED for lewd behavior. I mean…SERIOUSLY?!
Democrats are supposed to ignore opposing behavior. It doesn’t apply to us. We will always take the high ground. Is it wrong to take the high ground? No. “…but what about…”
It’s a tough call…
Don’t get me wrong. I am not excusing or making excuses for Cuomo’s behavior. Do I think that Cuomo should be excused for his behavior because the Republican Party is filled with miscreants? Honestly? Conflicted.
If I thought the Republicans like Matt Gaetz, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Lauren Boebert, Brett Kavanaugh, Jim Jordan, and so many others would be punished by the Republicans and their voters, I would have an easier time of all this. But we all know that won’t happen. It may even give them the majority in 2022. No good deed goes unpunished.
The question begs, “Is the right thing to do always the right thing to do?” Is knowing that we’ve done the right thing a consolation for watching the Republican Party destroy democracy? It’s a tough call.
At the end of the day…
I don’t know what the result would be to get in the slime and mud that is the Republican Party. I don’t think I would feel good about being a Democrat if I thought it was the same as being the scum of Trump.
Perhaps the Cuomo issue and the Republican issue should be treated separately, and it is a false equivalency. Perhaps we should take care of our own and deal with their misdeeds on their own. But tell me…honestly…the above thoughts haven’t crossed your mind in the hours since Cuomo’s resignation. If they haven’t, then you’re obviously a better person than I.
I know that the Democrats will wind up doing the right thing. Because that’s what we do. And acting like a fourth grader pointing at his brother and screaming, “But Billy did it first!” is not who we are.
All I’m saying is that sometimes being on that high road blows.
